Writing Tips 101

Writing for some people is a tough thing to do.  Essays, poems, even blogs can be a challenge for people.  However following basic steps on how or what to write can be the key to success in this constant writers block.  These are some of the things that I use when I begin to have a problem, maybe they can help you.

1.  Put everything down!  No matter what putting something down about the topic you plan to write out can be beneficiary down the road for you.  When having all these ideas floating around you are then able to formulate it and come up with this mad creation of a "messy" outline, the beginning of your essay.

2.  Once you have this chaotic of an outline going, start to formulate it into a neater, not perfect and precise but a nicer formulation that you would call a "sketch" of your writing. Start to put together your ideas to create the "meat" of your paper, the body paragraphs.  Introduction and conclusion are not needed to be worried about at this moment.  Just getting down the main part of your essay is what is important at this point.

3.  Now that the "meat" of your essay is done it's time to add the introduction and conclusion to your paper creating your rough draft.  Why did you have to wait till you got the body paragraphs in before you could add the introduction or conclusion?  Well now you know what you plan on talking about in your essay.  Starting with the introduction and going straight through to your conclusion is extremely tough and in the end you usually end up changing things up in your body paragraphs that doesn't even come close to your introduction.  Once this is all done and placed into order have someone from your class read it and give their input on the matter.  Have them give you advise on any grammatical errors and/or punctuational flaws in your essay.

4.  Once you have the advise of your classmate use them!  Getting or having any advise on your essay can help you in the long run for your paper.  This advise could even help you meet the number count for your essay is you are to low, who knows!  No matter what though do use their advise and create your second rough draft.  When your second rough draft is done instead of going to the same classmate you went to the first time, go to another one of your peers.  Having more than one person read your essay will give you a better insight on a more precise essay in the end.

5.  Finally!  The final stage of your hard work.  When the chaotic mess of your ideas are put together in an outline, the creation of your scetch is complete, two rough drafts with two different pairs of eyes to look over the problems in your essay and have typed it all out into a precise final draft you then are done!  You then have a beautiful and highly detailed essay that is ready to be turned in to your professor and be graded.

Hopefully when you come down with a writers block perhaps look these tips over.  Who knows, in the end it might just help you.

Two Truths and a Lie About Me

Which one is the lie about me??

1.  I have been over seas in two separate occasions.  One being with my AP class going to Ireland, Wales, and England.  The other time I was able to go with my family to France and the Netherlands.

2.  My dad owns a dirt biking track outside of Spokane and works as a spokes person.  When I was ten I entered myself in my first race and came out in second place.

3.  I have an aunt who moved over to France to become a nun when she was twenty four and hasn't been back since then.  She has been more at peace than she ever has been and absolutely loves being there.

Have you figured it out??  Let me know what you think and send me a post.

NCIS??

One of my all time favorite shows to watch is NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service, long name but great show to watch.

"The NCIS mission is to investigate and defeat criminal, terrorist, and foreign intelligence threats to the United States Navy and Marine Corps, wherever they operate, ashore or afloat." http://www.ncis.navy.mil/AboutNCIS/Today'sNCIS/Pages/default.aspx  In NCIS you are introduced to a group of people with completely different personalities who some how are able to mesh together into one big unusual family.  The "Alfa" the man in charge of the dysfunctional group is Gibbs or Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, a no nonsense type of guy who is usually a step ahead of everyone else.  Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo or Tony a smart alec agent and Special Agent Ziva David a bad ass chick are always bumping heads with each other.  Special Agent Timothy McGee is the technology guy usually picked on DiNozzo for being the geek of the group but McGee usually comes out on top and gets DiNozzo back.  Abby Sciuto and Dr. Donald Mallard or Ducky are the ones who analyze the evidence and keep the group somewhat sane in investigations.  The show has an act for a dry sense of humor and this keeps you intrigued on how these group of people actually work together.  It also keeps you guessing on what is to happened next, the different locations and scenes keeps your imagination rolling and curious to what will happened next.  The suspense and thrill is what keeps me watching over and over again.  I'm sure once you begin to watch it you wont be able to switch the channel.

Op Ed Articles

I was able to analyze and get information on these three op ed articles: "Snyder vs. Phelps at the Supreme Court: a 1st Amendment test", "New York is Yours for the Taking", and "Why I can't quit Facebook."

The first article, "Snyder vs. Phelps at the Supreme Court: a 1st Amendment test", Phelps and his family would protest on the, "...hatred for the gays and lesbians, Catholics, Jews, the U.S. government...and Swedes."  The audience of their choice is people at funerals of fallen soldiers.  Albert Snyder was attending his son Matthew's funeral who was a Marine lance corporal.  Phelps' family traveled from Kansas to Maryland to interrupt and ruin the funeral by yelling "God hates you" and "You're going to hell".  At the end of this article the author states his opinion saying how wrong and ruthless this act is and that respect for the fallen should be huge to the people of this country.  The logos in this piece portrays the facts and the result of this event that is unfolding.  The pathos is a huge roll in the this article pulling on the heart of the readers to feel for the family at their son's funeral and give the reader the feeling of an angry confusion of why some people would ever do such a thing.  the author does give out a sense of ethos and it definitely keeps the reader's interest in this article.  I do agree with the argument and I believe that it is a sound argument because the author states very clearly his side of his position and he has given several facts to back up his statement.

The second article, "New York Is Yours for the Taking", by Sloane Crosley is mainly about how we should trust that no one would ever take our stuff, but in reality distrust plays a big part in today's society and that "...most of the time our ego is warranted."  The logos in this article give the reader both sides of the spectrum of trusting and common sense in situations that we go through our daily lives and that we can misjudge a person at times too quickly.  The pathos that is portrayed is that it makes the reader think how we are quick to judge someone but then again our common sense is always needed in our daily lives.  The author I believe did bring our the ethos in the article, the humor and straight to the point personality was brought our and it kept my attention all the way through.  I believe that this is a sound argument and it gives out details that are able to prove her point throughout the article.

The last article "Why I can't quit Facebook", by Meghan Daum is about why many people, including the author, won't or can't quit Facebook.  "The more powerful it becomes as a tool for its users, the more powerful it becomes as a weapon against its nonusers."  Facebook is not about being up to date in the technology world but "...it's about being a responsible, modern, civilized person."  In the end it has become a need.  The logos of the article are about Facebook and how it has become a need for so many people.  The pathos leans more towards the need of this Facebook source and how we rely on it so much.  Daum demonstrated ethos well.  She kept my attention throughout the whole piece and gave out great facts on why we tend to stay on the Facebook path.  i believe that the argument was sound and she gave great detail to her piece to prove her point.

Who Am I??

This weekend I took the Enneagram Test and found out what personality this test showed I am.  According to this test I am a type 1:  Perfectionism, which I had never put together as being me until I took the quiz.  When I started to think about this as being my one main personality trait it really truly did not seem to fit. There are things such as trying to stay organized and/or do something right the first time I do it but that was all that I could come up with that would fit the description of being a perfectionism. The other two personality traits that I scored high on were type 2;  helpfulness and type 6; anxiety.  I have always leaned towards being helpful and putting someone first before myself.  That is just how I was raised in my family and that is who we are, our needs would come last after everyone else was taken care of.  Anxiety is a trait that unfortunately is a part of my personality.  I tend to worry about others too much and in certain situations I tend to think the worst possible scenarios are going to happen, but hope that they never come true.  This has been a part of my personality that I have tried to rein in and just try to go with the flow.  I just need to remember to accept things as they happen and make the best of it and try to control only the things I have control over.
